Mark Taylor-Gregg is a talented North East Artist.

He was born in the Northumberland town of Ashington on the 6th of August 1979. His father Dallas Keith Taylor was a local pilot boats skipper, lifeboat-man and artist and mother June Taylor a stay at home mum. Isobel, Marks sister, was born in 1976. As a child Mark lived in Blyth, Northumberland spending much of his free time around boats at the harbour. The family moved just a few miles south in 1985 to the seaside resort of Whitley Bay. He was awarded a merit for his studies at North Tyneside College 1995-98 for a BTEC National Diploma in 3D Design and a Foundation Diploma in Fine Art. He then studied at York St John where he achieved a 2:1 BA Honours Degree in Art and Design in 2001.

Mark started his exciting career developing new models and overseeing boat production in the High Performance Development Department of Sealine International, a luxury motor yacht manufacturer, based in Kidderminster, Worcestershire. Returning to the North East in 2005 Mark became a Further Education Lecturer and a lifeboat-man. He first worked as course leader lecturing in fine art at Tyne Metropolitan College, then at Newcastle College as work based training provider, lecturer and part time course co-ordinator. Mark was awarded his Post Graduate in Further Education from Sunderland University in 2008.

Mark has been working as a full time artist since 2011 painting to commission mainly in oils with a palette knife, occasionally in Acrylic with a brush. His love for the sea is grounded by equal respect of what this beautiful thing can bring. Volunteering for Tynemouth Lifeboat, Mark is a crewman on the all-weather lifeboat and a Helmsman on the D-Class Inflatable lifeboat. His seascapes can be powerful and encapsulate the essence of a storm or show the delicacy of light dancing on the surface of an ebbing tide.

Mark is a versatile Landscapes artist, and his paintings are of subjects from around the world as well as scenes of his home the North East of England. He paints with a keen eye for perspective and the vibrancy of his colour palette brings his work to life enabling the viewer to feel like they could almost walk in to the artwork.
